As soon as I saw the horse mural in this basement space, I knew EXACTLY what I wanted to create….an equestrian inspired bourbon lounge! Other than the gorgeous mural, the room was a blank slate needing a full infusion of personality. I chose a deep green paint and knew that a color drench covering the walls, trim, and ceiling would give it a dramatic, underground speakeasy feel. In lieu of a traditional frame, I decided to add a gold curtain rod and luxurious velvet curtains to showcase the horse painting. The furniture and decor are a mix of new items, vintage treasures, and my client’s collected pieces. One of my favorite parts is the bookcases. I wallpapered the backs of the shelves and added long gold handles to give them a glamourous flair. The rich amber bourbon tones perfectly complement the gold and greens, and a multitude of textures (corduroy, velvet, leather, fur, wood, and metal) give this lounge a cozy, layered look that makes you want to relax and stay awhile.

When you get a call from a mom who juggles a full time job, 3 kids, and multiple cats and dogs (and a turtle!), you jump into action! This dear mama had her home “office” crammed into a corner of the room, and the rest was a catch all for the kids’ and animals’ stuff. She was craving a calm, beautiful, organized space that would function as her office as well as a gathering area for visiting friends and family game nights. The color palette was inspired by the row of stunning blue hydrangeas growing outside of the windows and French doors. I hung Rifle and Paper Co. wallpaper on one accent wall which was a lovely backdrop for decor and family photos (hung after photo was taken). I painted the walls a coordinating blue and hung the patterned curtains on dark wood rods to match the wood tones in the furniture. New lamps, chairs, and a loveseat surround an antique blanket chest that doubles as a coffee table and storage for games. I tucked her desk and office supplies behind the loveseat so that she has a great view and can also keep any work clutter hidden. As always, I collected various vintage treasures to use as accent pieces around the room.

This client requested a light and bright, peaceful, cozy living room redo without any major furniture changes. She loves her family photos and beloved heirloom antiques but did not like the layout or cluttered feeling in the room. I decided to stick with the blue palette but change out the dark navy for lighter shades of blues and ivory. I purchased a new rug, curtains, a couch slipcover, lamps, throw pillows and blankets, and a few accessories to pull the updated look together. On installation day, I completely deconstructed the room and moved all of the furniture which made it feel more open and less overwhelming yet retained her fondness for a country/farmhouse style reminiscent of her childhood in eastern Kentucky. This sweet lady’s beautiful blue eyes shone even brighter when she saw her “new” room!

In addition to loving design, I also love to organize and this project required equal parts of both! My client was a preteen who wanted a place to craft and create with lots of art supply storage and access to her toys/books/games. I immediately knew that the nook on the right should house her desk and that the areas beside the window should be filled with shelving and disguised with luxurous velvet curtains. We chose the adorable strawberry fields wallpaper and the color scheme flowed from there. I found the desk, dresser, and old record player on FB Marketplace and gave each of them a total makeover with paint and new hardware. I love the pop of red from the desk! The dresser is full of art supplies all organized in bins, and the antique record player allowed me to organize her papers and canvases in a unique way. A grouping of old frames spray painted gold serve as displays for future artwork that can be changed out easily.
