When your client is your daughter, you really want to get it right! My preteen was more than ready for an updated pink, gold, and glam bedroom. She requested modern furniture, lots of faux fur, and a general “preppy aesthetic” which I had to educate myself on. This is not the preppy of the 1980s that I grew up with. We kept the wallpaper and the antique mantle that we put in 7 years ago, and I did my best to create a cohesive space with the old and the new. It turned out to be one of the coziest spots in the house. The modern edges are softened with the glowy pinks, warm lighting, and furry accessories.

A young client was ready to transition from cute kid’s room to tranquil, boho preteen retreat! I went with a creamy white and sage green palette with lots of texture and natural accents. In lieu of a headboard, I created an arched basket wall and kept the other walls fairly minimal so that she could add her own photos and art. This room stayed true to my belief that mixing old and new creates a layered, thoughtful environment that feels customized and original.

Another preppy aesthetic preteen room! I had a blast designing this sleek pink space with pops of blue and cheetahs too! I adore the wallpaper accent wall. It is the perfect, whimsical backdrop for the modern vanity. The shag rug, velvet curtains, faux fur chair, lots of lighting, and fuzzy accent pillows warm up the room and make it a relaxing and snug spot.
